Transboundary Wetlands Database

The Transboundary Wetlands Database provides information for 300 wetlands located in in more than 80 international river basins. The wetlands included are primarily those recognized as Wetlands of International Importance under the 1971 Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, including:

· 22 Transboundary Ramsar Sites which encompass 65 individual Ramsar Sites designated by 26 countries

· 210 individual Ramsar sites that extend onto the territory of one or more other countries, designated by 84 countries

· 12 wetlands identified as transboundary by Griffin and Ali (2012)

· 9 Ramsar sites identified as transboundary through spatial analysis

· 4 non-Ramsar transboundary wetlands identified through Google search

The downloadable excel file includes information on Ramsar designation, country and region location, situatedness within international river basins, and presence of a river basin organization (RBO).
